Minutes of the Old Lyme Conservation Commission Meeting: April 5, 2016
The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m.
Present were members Maureen Plumleigh, Sue Baehr, and guest Anu Godfrey-Fogg.
The minutes of the previous meeting were accepted as written.
New Business:
List of Priority Items 2016:
Assignments were reviewed and noted on the hard copy document.
Congregation Church Environmental Committee update:
On April 17 at 12:00 p.m. Maureen will be one of the hosts of a coffee hour at the church. Maureen’s topic is Buffer Gardens.
Climate Change Forum dates are as follows:
Thursday, June 9, 6:30 p.m.
Thursday, June 16, 6:30 p.m.
Saturday, June 25, 10:30 a.m.
Lake Bottom Blanket:
Information regarding price and size will be provided to Tom who will follow-up.
Outreach:
Anu and Sue met with a LOLHS senior who is providing photos of Old Lyme trails. The photos will be posted on the OLCC web page.
The Commission will work with high school students to formulate the next Events article in an effort to encourage student’s involvement in conservation issues.
Efforts to get a Facebook page designed by students up and running will continue.
The Buffer Garden display will be at the library for the month of April.
Report on Salt Marsh Advancement Zone Assessment:
Sue attended the workshop held on March 11 and shared the report.
Report on CLEAR Webinar: Living Shorelines in CT:
Sue participated in the webinar held on March 10 and shared the findings: “Living shorelines” of grass and barrier plantings are much more effective than permanent barrier when dealing with storms (short term) and sea level rise (long term).
Old Business:
Hains Park and Town Woods Trash:
The Commission organized a collection of trash at the park and along Town Woods Rd.
Linda Clough has offered to maintain the buffer garden.
Mary Jo Nosal confirmed that no more sand would be added to Hains Park.
